Mt. Bierstadt

You may not believe it based on the body of work on this blog thus far, but we actually have life outside of pursuing adoption. Shocking, I know!

Our favorite adventure of the summer: our first 14er! Scott and I have lived in Colorado for 11 years now and had somehow not yet summited a 14er (meaning a mountain with a summit above 14,000 feet – Colorado has 53), so for our anniversary celebration, we set out to change that.

My parents took the kids overnight, we were out the door by 4:45am and on the trail by 6:15am, summit at 8:45am, and back in the car heading home by 11:45am. All-in-all, it was a total mountain-top experience. (Ha!) The hike was honestly a lot less hard than I had anticipated, although my legs were feeling the burn for a few days afterward. Will we do it again? Absolutely.

Because a picture is worth a thousand words:

On the trail at daybreak.
Can you believe this view? Just before the final climb to the summit.
A storm’s coming …
Summit by 8:45am! (Low cloud cover completely encased the summit right as we got there, so we didn’t get the sweeping panoramas we had hoped for … guess we’ll have to do another 14er next summer!)
Hello husband + look at that cloud line!
This is what I imagine Scotland looks like. Cloudy, but still spectacular.
Of course right as we reached the bottom: sunshine.
